Braces

If you wear braces, you are probably aware of how important proper oral hygiene is. We know that it can sometimes be a challenge, but we will help you understand how to effectively care for your teeth and the cleanliness of the braces.

First days after braces installation

Your mouth needs time to get used to the presence of the braces. This is associated with the formation of abrasions and painful canker sores. It is worth immediately after the start of treatment to stock up on orthodontic wax and a preparation for canker sores. They will provide you with complete comfort in the first days of wearing the braces.

What toothbrush to choose?

Soft bristles – choose a toothbrush with soft bristles. Soft bristles are gentler on the braces and gums, which reduces the risk of irritation and damage.
Small brush head – a toothbrush with a small head allows better access to hard-to-reach places around the braces, where plaque can easily accumulate.
Straight or V-shaped brush head – choose a toothbrush with a straight or V-shaped brush head, such shapes will make it easier to clean the surfaces of the teeth and the braces.

How to clean the spaces between the teeth and the hard-to-reach places of the braces?

Dental floss

Dental floss is an excellent tool for cleaning interdental spaces. Gently insert the floss between the teeth and make a few up and down movements to remove food residues and plaque. Using dental floss is especially important, as a traditional toothbrush cannot reach these narrow spaces.
A great solution is dental floss with stiff tips. They can be easily threaded between teeth or braces elements.

Interdental brushes

Interdental brushes are also an effective way to clean interdental spaces and the braces. Choose the right brush size that fits the space between your teeth. Gently insert the brush between the teeth and make up and down movements to thoroughly clean these places.

Irrigator

A device that produces a stream of water under pressure is the most effective way to clean hard-to-reach areas of the braces. Direct the stream of water to the braces and into the interdental spaces to remove food residues and plaque.

Braces - what about eating?

01.

Avoid hard and sticky foods – they can be difficult to remove

02.

Pay attention to hard fruits and vegetables – cut them into smaller pieces before eating

03.

Avoid snacks – eating between meals can linger on the braces

04.

Limit sweets and carbonated drinks – they increase the risk of tooth decay

05.

Focus on soft and easy-to-chew foods that can be easily removed from the braces

Mouthwash - a rescue in emergency cases

If you have an important meeting, date, or situation where you do not have the opportunity to brush your teeth, mouthwash can help freshen your breath and remove an unpleasant taste from your mouth.
Sometimes after a meal we may have the impression that food residues are stuck in the braces and between the teeth. Mouthwash can help remove these residues, which prevents the accumulation of plaque and unpleasant odors.
The braces have many hard-to-reach places where plaque can accumulate and cause tooth decay. Mouthwash can help reach these areas and effectively clean them.
Sometimes wearing braces can cause irritation or ulcers in the mouth. Mouthwash with soothing ingredients can help relieve discomfort.
